The following suggestions will help you to reduce your communication apprehension, or stage fright.
1. Gain experience - with experience, your initial fear and anxieties will give way to feelings of control, comfort, and pleasure.
2. Think positively - to gain confidence, think positive thoughts and be espeacially thorough in your preparation.
3. See public speaking as conversation - to think of public speaking as another type of conversation.
4. Stress similarity - try to emphasize the similarity between yourself and your audience.
5. Prepare and practice thoroughly - adequate and even extra preparation will lessen the possibility of failure and the accompanying apprehension.
6. Move about and breathe deeply - physical activity and breathe deeply will help you lessen apprehension.
7. Avoid chemicals as tension relievers - unless prescribed by a physician, avoid any chemical means for reducing apprehension.
